The Dawn Rehab & Wellness Centre Chiang Mai, Thailand

The Dawn Rehab Review

The Dawn is a luxury wellness and rehab centre located alongside the Ping River around 50 minutes from central Chiang Mai. It is a well-appointed facility with a peaceful atmosphere which combines an old traditional structure with more modern buildings.

The Facility

The Dawn is one of the newer treatment centres, and it feels like the type of accommodation you would expect from a luxury rehab in Thailand. The 25-bed facility is nestled in lush green lawns by the river, featuring lodging that is more alike to a resort than a hospital setting. The idea was to provide a peaceful retreat that promotes relaxation and healing for mind and body.

At The Dawn Rehab, clients are offered private ensuite rooms with a private balcony. The rooms feature an LCD flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, work desk, and high-speed internet access. Their clients also have access to a health spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, and sauna.

The Treatment

The Dawn Rehab offers programmes that treat not only addiction but focus on mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, PTSD, insomnia, and personality disorder. They also provide a programme for stressed work executives and other individuals with demanding jobs who struggle with burnout.

At The Dawn, they use their original treatment method known as “The Twin Pillars Approach” to achieve the balance between therapy, relaxation, and well-being. The approach combines Eastern and Western treatment modalities, providing clients with the opportunity to maintain long-term mental health recovery and sobriety.

The First Pillar relies on evidence-based Western psychotherapy, focusing on recuperating the client’s mind and teaching them strategies needed to stop negative behaviours and enforce alternative positive behaviours. Psychotherapy is combined with holistic practices to support healing and recovery. This is achieved through the Second Pillar wellness programme which aims to provide a sense of increased mental resilience through the practice of Eastern holistic techniques such as yoga, mindfulness, art therapy, massage therapy, and physical fitness.

They also offer the Step Down Programme that eases the transition from inpatient treatment to a real-life daily routine. After the primary inpatient treatment, clients will move to the semi-controlled facility on-site, but with the freedom to come and go as you like. The Step-Down Programme should allow you to put your new sober living skills at work at your own pace.

The Team

A family of Thai entrepreneurs runs The Dawn Rehab, and it is one of the fully Thai-owned rehabs in Thailand. The majority of internationally-trained staff comes from the accredited institutions in the US, the United Kingdom, and Australia. They claim that each team member is licensed and experienced in the treatment of addiction, mental illness, and trauma.

At The Dawn, they have a relapse warranty policy where clients can come back and receive treatment for free in case of relapse. So, if you attend the rehab’s programme for three months, you can return and receive treatment free of charge.

As The Dawn Rehab’s programme emphasises mental health, many of their clients come to treat their mental health issues rather than addiction.

The centre has recently undergone a change in management, which resulted in high staff turnover as well as the difference in clinical guidelines and treatment programmes. Past clients have mixed reviews about the centre.

The Dawn Rehab is at the mid to high price point with a month of treatment costing $12,000.
